In collaboration with COENG Consulting Engineers, Strey Architects were asked to design a clinic in Vogelfontein, Bethlehem. We had just more than a week to design a clinic in timber before they broke ground on site. It is a timber frame structure with timber ship-lap cladding designed so that panels can be constructed off site and erected onsite in a short frame of time. It is a simple courtyard building with a central foyer that was designed so that it could be constructed in phases. At this stage the servicing of the stand is very limited, so attention had to be paid to solar water heating, generators and septic tanks among others.
