For the annual Decorex exhibition it was decided to showcase an example of three Modul8 units. The first is an entire module consisting of an open plan kitchen and lounge area with double glazed sliding doors opening up onto a deck. The second is a two-thirds bedroom unit and thirdly a third of a module bathroom. Each module was constructed from a mild steel framework with a timber skeleton inside.
The walls are doubly insulated with plastic insulation wool and insulation board providing optimal thermal resistance to the interior spaces. In this case Finnish spruce and oriented strand board were chosen as interior cladding options. Siberian larch serves as exterior cladding which would be ideal for dwelling in coastal regions. The structure was left unfinished to showcase its skeleton and the way a Modul8 is manufactured.
The playful roof composition creates an unique interior spatial experience and conveys the architectural design consideration of this M8 unit. It is more than just a box – the possibilities are endless.
This unit was completed and moved to AfriSki as the first phase of L’Alpe d’Huez.
